anybody replace their own weatherstripping?
my sisters weatherstripping on her g2 is shot... so her car fills with water when it rains and it smells like rancid spongy ass in there... we took her back seats out yesterday (they were saturated) there was standing water under the seat and in the trunk, the carpet in the back was soaked....
so anyway she shop-vac'd it out, dried the seats etc but the problem is just gonna come back...
is the weatherstripping for the rear hatch a dealer only part? is it a bitch to replace?

That is a pretty big piece of glass. I have replaced the rubber in the bug, but it is pretty old, sort of like the car to which you refer. I have no doubt it is a dealer only part, it will be at least a two or three person job. You can use a thin piece of nylon rope to assist in working with weatherstripping. For the windshield on the bug, I put the rubber on the glass, stuck the nylon rope in the groove that fits into the window frame, pulled out the rope(from the inside) as a buddy GENTLY pushed on the windshield from the outside. I would imagine it is a similar process for any window glass. Do it on a warm day to soften the rubber a bit
