Default idle problem

I have a stock 96 gsr and the idle is at 1400 rpm or sometimes at 1000 rpm and it moves up and down. It doesn't stay still so i was wondering how do i fix the problem and to make the idle stay at 800 rpm and not rev up or down.

Until it warms up, the idle is very erratic because of a valve. I don't know what it is called or its purpose but it closes when the engine is warm and brings idle down to normal. I have the same thing with my 96 GSR. It's normal.

He says its moving up and down, not high idleing because the car is warming up, BTW its called the FITV (Fast idle thermal valve) that does that. But his problem is just like mine was/is.

Mine did the same thing yours did until i did a valve adjustment, then it went down to 800 and stayed pretty still, it is still moving though, but not as much, im still working on finding the whole problem.

BUT lots and LOTS of things can contribute to this problem, from vacum leaks, to the throttle plate sticking, all kinda of things are possible, maybe try a valve adjustment, especially if the car needs it

You can also try to reground your engine/tranny/distributor/body, fixed my idle and all it cost was 15 bucks of 4 guage wire and 20 min.
