Default A few ?? for Hondata owners.....

I am looking into getting the Hondata S200. It seems to have the additional features I want that is not available with a VAFC. I know some of you are running this. I would appreciate some feedback and suggestions.

What system are you running and with what mods?

Did you install and tune yourself?

Did you purchase from a dealer or from Hondata?

What other Management or piggyback systems have you ran in the past?

I will more than likely have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing (not me). There are NO DEALERS in my area. closest in NY I think.

Tuned by Steve Sakai.

SMSP header and exhaust, front to back.

Very mild flow work on the head. Comptech Icebox.

The car's a delight to drive on the street and still gets right up against 30 miles per gallon.

Hondata has infinitely more to offer than a VAFC. First and foremost independent control over timing and fuel..with VAFC, every adjustment to the fuel % affects timing..very dangerous..also you get a factory Honda ECU with 20 years of Honda engineering behind it, try to beat that with a little variable resistor like the VAFC...factory injector drivers..you can't beat the idle..and as Knighton said..30+ mpg, even out of my 295whp turbo car..btw I tried the VAFC for a year..It was fun to play with...but you get tired of playing with it to get your car to run and idle...

I installed it myself in less than 20 minutes. My tuner gave me a chip with a very good base map, so I was able to drive it to his facility without issues. The car made 240whp on the first pull without changing the base map...not too bad.

I will probably go with the S200 with Three step option. I am looking at $450. Do I need an adapter? There are no local Hondata dealers. Closest one is 3 hours easy.

Do yourself a favor and also buy the Hondata-modified ECU..that will give you a clean install (no adaptor harness needed)

Did you purchase a Modified ECU form Hondata? or did you use the Factory ECU? I have to get a cable to convert from OBD2 to OBD1 ($250) or a OBD1 ECU for $250. Is this correct?

No, not necessarily.

I did not need any kind of conversion.

Call Hondata and just ask them. They are very good w/customer service. They can also suggest someone in your area to tune it.

George, I looked into this.

You need an OBD-I ECU, and you'll need a wiring harness to plug it into.
