PLEASE help
SO sorry for the long post ahead. im a boost fanatic and im almost 100% sure im gonna turbo my 98 2dr gsr (MILDLY considering supercharger...any major advantages/disadvantages some one could bring to light?). anyway, here's what my car has:
Engine:
Factory b18c1 w/ GSR Tranny (Tranny in perfect condition)
81.5mm Probe Racing Pistons - Ceramic Coated
IB Spec Forged H Beam Rods
ARP Head Studs
Hondata IM Gasket
Stock Intake, Header, Exhaust, Cat
ACT Heavy Duty Clutch & Pressure Plate
Suspension:
H&R Sort Lowering Springs
Tokico Illumina Shocks
Factory Strut/ Sway Bars
Brakes:
Brembo Drilled Brake Rotor Upgrade
Hawk brake pads
OEM Rear Brakes
What, if any, are my next steps to preping the engine/susp/brakes for a turbo/supercharger (most likely turbo)? just basic stuff, im not gonna go all out with everything due to a budget, but i dont want to blow my motor. thank you for any help!

Not trying to turn you off the turbo if thats what you really want, but Jackson Racing has a nice product in both moderate and high boost applications...a plus is no turbo lag and it comes in slightly cheaper...are you planning on lowering the compression? otherwise knocking might be a issue (wasn't sure what those new pistons you listed would change your compression to).
im not sure of the compression, the pistons were on the car when i bought it. any way i can check?
emry: are you saying the jackson supercharger is cheaper than a turbo? everything ive seen online says its a little more than like a greddy kit. any websites you know of with good deals? also, what are differences in hp/torque gains between turbo/supercharger? thanks guys.
p.s. the guy before me is a honda enthusiast and knows his shit, but he said the engine is ready to boost like 14+ psi (he previously had it turboed). im thinking not...what would i need to boost that high? is the stuff i have sufficient?

I would suggest you take it to a shop with the equipment to do a compression/leak down test and get some accurate numbers. Im an all motor guy myself, but from what Ive learned watching my brother build a 350hp H23 turbo prelude you want some where around 9.5:1 compression ratio if you want to run anything above 7psi. Those ceramic coated pistons sound ideal for forced induction/ possible NO2 application. MSRP numbers for the JRSC are $2595, where as a greddy turbo kit is $3,249.00. Obviously the turbo would be my prefernce if I wanted to run anything above the 6psi the JRSC gives you out of the box. I know you can go up to about 12psi with the JRSC, however at that point its pretty much just as expensive if not a little more than the greddy kit. I would say right now you need to figure out what your working with on the bottom end of your motor. The link at the bottom has some dyno plots with JRSC and boltons...hope this helps.

Edited because I was an asshole. My apologies.
First of all, it'll be tough to boost your car on a budget since there's a lot that goes into maintaining and making sure your engine runs smoothly and safely. Things like oil, clutch, brake pads, rotors, and tires will have to be replaced more often.
To test compression you can go to a local shop and have them do a compression check for you.
14+ psi is a lot of boost, especially if it's a daily driven car. Our atmosphere is approximately 14psi. Running boost like that is like shoving in twice as much air into the same space and combusting it.
Go ask people who have turbos on their car, ask them how much boost they're running, and ask how much maintenance it is. Their experience with boosting will come in handy now and when you have a sudden question and you need an answer quick.
Also with the supercharger, you won't have as big of gains but you won't have turbo lag. Depends on how much power you want and whether you want it on demand or with a little delay. The supercharger does whine. Know the sound your car makes when you go really fast in reverse? That's similar to what a supercharger will sound like. Some people hate it, personally I like it.

yourmom25 why do you have to be so anal all the time if he wants to boost his car and hes on a budget then obviously he set a budget to a certain amount. If you cant offer any advise then dont post smart ass remarks.

.... if you knew enough about your car to boost, you'd know that a simple compression check at a local shop is all you need to test the compression.
.... Your friend may be an enthusiast but he knows dick about boost. .....
Point is, you don't know enough about your car or your engine to say you're going to turbo your GSR.
