hey dude

depends on what you want the car to do... There is such a thing of lightening too much. The car will certainly rev faster. But the down fall is the fact that you will loose torque.

Think the flywheel at normal weight spinning at 1000rpm. The momentum will make your car take off smooth. On the otherhand, if you have a lighten flywheel the momentum is alot less.... meaning that there is a greater chance the car will stall if you try to take off normally (at 1000rpm). You may also find that the car will loose power going up a hill so you'd need to drop down a gear.

The EK9/DC2 OEM flywheel is lighter and a direct bolt-on to a GS-R

The only time your car will 'lose torque' is when you are launching. Once the car is in gear and moving, the lighter flywheel gives the engine less roatational mass to get turning, so therefore if anything you would accelerate faster. Although this isnt exactly true since the weight loss due to an aftermarket flywheel is very minimal compared to the mass of the rest of the car and all of the other moving parts, this is why you dont normally see lower 1/4 mile times after getting a light flyhwheel. So basically with a lighter flywheel you will have to rev higher when launching to get the same amount of rotational momentum to send to the wheels. The advantage to a light flywheel is how it allows your engine to change rpms a lot quicker.

I put in a 8.5 lbs fidanza in my b18b. I noticed a huge difference. The car runs alot easyer now. even going up hills with passangers the car seems to move alot more effortlessly. as for revving the engine at launch, ive noticed that yes i cant launch without stepping on the throttle. However reving it to 1100-1300 seems to be more than suffiicent to move the car without stalling it.
hope this helps

I think these problems get blown way out of porportion. If you can drive a manual it shouldnt be hard to drive one even as light as 8 lbs. I had no problems even driving it home from the mechanics. I actually like it better going up a hill cause i have better throttle responce. Also in my car i noticed better passing ability in 5th. It immediatly starts to accelerate. Before i had to almost push the pedal to the floor and wait and wait. Anyways thats just been my experience. Take it for what its worth. The car doesn't like reversing up hills as much though it still manages but thats the only downside i can think of.
