Default Timing Belt change

Hey guys

I have a question, my Integra LS has 83k miles on it, Is it time for a timing belt change? Is it expensive? Right now the car runs fine.

i heard if you wait til the timing belt broke, it's gonna be an expensive repair...

since i got the car, I never have any real full tune up, cause it costs like $400, but i do maintenances here and there, change spark plugs, change air filters. change fluids...

Should i get a full tune up, inspection is coming up soon, but i think i will pass it without a problem..

thanks.

Most people say every 90k miles for the timing belt. If you wait til the belt breaks, then your pistons can hit your valves & bend them. It's not guaranteed, but there's a good chance. Then you may as well shop for a new engine.

If you're already doing the normal stuff yourself, then I wonder what costs $400?? Maybe that's a timing belt & valve adjustment... Look in your owner's manual for the maintenance schedule. Maybe you can do a lot of it yourself. Or at least you can go to a mechanic with a specific list, instead of just saying "I need everything done"$$$

you are better off changing the belt now instead of risking it. I had it changed on my G2 at 70-75k. It was changed about the same time on my gsr. I say every 75k is a good time to change it, but other people do it later.

It is recomeneded at 90k... It is expensive and i would only recomend trying it yourself if you know what your doing...

The lowest estimate i can come up with here is $520.00

Make sure they replace the water pump, and the balance shaft belt...both can fail and cause the timing belt to break later, and cannot be replaced unless you pull everything out just like you would have to for a timing belt replacment...

Get it done soon, just because your engine runs fine is NO sign of a good timing belt, your belt would have to be stripped of teeth, half of it missing or streched beyong belif for your eninge to start showing signs, and by the time it did the belt would break and a 90% chance of you shopping for a new engine...

The belt on my car broke, well not broke it got stripped and might as well have broke when the intake cam locked up becasue of the rotor in the igition wasnt the right one or somthing (it was a cheap one from shucks, always go OEM ) And mine came out fine from this, but that is RARE
