Default Coming up on 90k - Questions about 90k service

What goes on in the 90k service? Timing belt, water pump...? What can I do myself? I've never changed a timing belt before... I heard it's a PITA, but I guess we all have to learn sometime eh?

The 90k is the same thing as the 30k, but like you said, i would include the timing belt and water pump also. and while those belts are out, you may as well replace all of them. that is my plan when i hit it.

otherwise, the rest of the service that Acura would do is mainly inspections.

Timing belt and water pump isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Do a little research and learn how to do it yourself and save a bunch of money

:werd: Do teh timing belt and water pump yourself, it's not really *that* hard and you save a ton of money. I mean a TON of money. I just used the Helms manual. The hardest part was getting the crank pulley bolt loose but there's plenty of info on HAN about how to get it so I won't repeat it here.

Yeah I did it at a shop, and OMG did my wallet feel super duper light after I got the bill. But that was 40K miles ago.

Do the seals at the same time too, and obviously adjust the valves, and change the trans fluid

I bought my car ('95 Integra LS) just after the seller had the 60k service. It's a bit more than 60k later, and I never took it for it's 90k or 120k service. I've been good with the preventative maintenance, so are the 30k services necessary? I know they're a bit pricey, and my wife and I can't really afford to drop that much.

Depends on what you mean by "been good with the preventative maintenance". If you do all the things that are normally done at the 90 and 120 maintenance marks then you're good. But if you just did spark plugs and oil changes then you should probably do *at least* the timing belt. The timing belt is normally replaced at 90k and if it breaks there is an extremely good chance that your pistons will hit your valves, thus damaging much of the engine internals, thus rendering it garbage. I've heard of some going out shortly after 90k but if yours lasted to 120+ long then I think you're very, very lucky. The timing belt costs about $55 and the water pump about $50 (www.ahmotor.com). Although the water pump really isn't necessary unless it's leaking, it requires that most of the same things be taken off as the timing belt and the coolant drained so you might as well do them both at once and save yourself trouble down the line.
