Default Bilstein Shocks

I have spoon progressive springs and was wondering if anyone has paired them up with some aftermarket shocks other than the spoon yellows non adj. From my research so far, Bilsteins seem to be a good choice to use with these springs, anyone have any experience with this setup?

My roomie has bilstein shocks (albeit in a Saab h: ). They are a pretty good non-adjustable, but they've got nothing on my Konis. As for quality, you're safe with Bilstein.. you wont have to worry about blown shocks for a loooong time.

If you want a no-brainer, no-trouble installation with your Spoon springs, and you're mostly a street user, then Bilsteins would be a great choice.

There's also nothing wrong with KYB shocks, either, with their multiple adjustments.

What seems like ages ago, I also tried Spoon progressive springs with Koni Yellow, and this proved to be problematic because of the kind of rear Koni people were selling at the time. They were trying to sell the CRX shock for the rear of the ITR, which did fit but lowered the car too much.

This led to the infamous "Spoon spacer" for the rear of the ITR, which was basically hard plastic machined to raise the rear back up to an appropriate height.

What are you doing with your car, if you don't mind? Street car?

My car is a daily driven car(winters as well) but is occasionally tracked, auto-x every month or so(during the summer) and probably 1-3 lapping days a year. I was already impressed with the stock suspension on my first lapping day and auto-x with the car, I was just looking for something that would increase the performance and plant the car down a bit more. I only got the springs b/c I got a very good deal on them and I know that the death of my stock shocks will be coming soon, probably by next season. I know it's not as big of a difference since the stock suspension is already very good, but I didn't find the need to increase the performance much much more. I still yet have to test the springs on the track.

I am using Bilsteins on my other, non-ITR car. They're really very nice - ride quality is actually very comfortable, but they firm up when driven hard on the track.

Just one more thing, would there be any advantage to getting the spoon yellow dampers over the bilstein, since the valving of the spoon dampers are supposedly matched perfectly to the spoon spring rates??????

IM currently using BILSTEIN shocks in my 01 ITR with H&R springs

cornering: an initial sway but the car seems to lock and can take corners very fast

comfort: somewhat more bouncy than stock, not too bad tho

[....]

continous bumpy roads can become excessively annoying

great ride height tho, only .75 inch drop, looks great

The bilsteins and the springs were placed in at same time, so not really sure which of the two is good and bad.

overall conclusion: i like the way my ITR drives, but i like a slightly stiffer ride (less sway), a tad less bouncy (not bumpy...bouncy), and a little more stability at higher speeds. I think the new suspension even affected my braking, high speed braking seems more unstable now....not sure tho
im running Falken Azenis tires on stock wheels, car is 100% stock other than the mentioned suspension. I hope this helps somewhat. PM me for more

im looking into either apexi n1 coilovers or spoon n1 coilovers

Everything you said the car is doing that you don't like, I think is coming from your tire and rim selection. I had the Azenis on stock wheels and hated it and sounds like the same feeling I was getting.

Try a stock wheel & tire and then tell me if the car is more stable.
