Default Black smoke out my exhaust and I need a smog check soon!!

Why is there black smoke build up on my exhaust/ back bumber. My motor(B18c1) is completely stock with just an exhaust system. I do have a cat and a resonator. Whats the deal. I'm conserned because I'm gonna need a smog check soon.

Black smoke typically means rich. What ecu are you using?

The motor is from a 98 teg (OBD2), but I'm running a P72 (OBD1). I think it is running rich actually because it kinda smells like gasonline. How can I adjust the air/fuel mixture?
