Default replacing front tires...

My stock tires are 17k miles old, and the treadlife is still ok. However these tires suck, but I dont want to spend the money to buy 4 new tires. In this case, would you recommend just replacing the two fronts?

I would keep all four, unless you want to sell the whole set. Why would you voluntarily want two different tread patterns on your car?

There's always someone wanting to buy used parts, yes including those poor Michelins. If they're not bad at all, try selling them for $150-200.

umm, yeah. There may be some sucker out thhere that wants 17k on stock michellins that suck w/ 0k on them. They don't get better with age. But I am sure some noob would buy them. If you find somone to buy them, let me know cause i will sell mine. Mine only have 13k on them.

BTW, what tires are you gonna get? I need to look into some new tires. I hate these stock ones.

Yeah, well I wanted to get the Potenza S-03's, but it's just not worth it in my opinion. To get the 205/50 15's it would cost $110/tire plus shipping from tirerack.com. And the treadlife sucks.

So, I think i'm going to go with the Kuhmo 712's, for $58/tire. It's a great deal, the treadlife is good, and think about how much better it would be compared to the stock pieces of ****. It's not the best, but I'm sure it will be good enough for me. And it's supposed to be a good tire in the rain too, and from what I remember, thats something you were putting into consideration as well.

Yes I would get the Khumos. the problem for me is they are not good for snow. I need an all weather tire so I am still on mu search. Maybe the Dunlops or Falken Altenza's.

I went from the stock Michelins to the Khumo Estca 712 and I can't say level of grip is that much better. The XGT's cried on every corner but they still gripped pretty well, Khumo's are much quiter but I don't feel they have more grip. They are better coping with heat, after some hot laps on the track the Michelins were chunking while the Khumos looked pretty good.

Just my $0.02.

in your long search, have you heard anything about Falken Ziex 512s? I read a few good things about them, but not much on how they handle in snow. They are pretty cheap and I was thinking about getting them if they aren't too bad in the snow.

In the end it'll be better(and cheaper) to just replace all 4 at once (unless you drag your car, in which case getting 2 sticky front tires would be good). I'm at 36,000 on the stock tires (ran at Thunderhill with 34,000 miles on them, tires were complaining loudly at every corner) h: ; my replacement tires are arriving with my "replacement" wheels (listed in my sig).
