Burning oil
Is it common for Type Rs to burn oil? I have 60,000 miles and use 93 octane gas and mobil 1, but I still see a cloud of smoke sometimes in high rpm. Has anyone else noticed this, if so are there any solutions? Thanks.

I'm also not sure I'd be comfortable running a heavier oil in an engine such as the C5, though I know some do. You might want to first try switching to a conventional oil, as some people have reported that this aleviates much of their burning problems (it's also been my observation that people report more burning problems with Mobil 1, even compared with other synthetics). You never mentioned if you are actually experiencing oil loss between changes. Is your level normally low at oil change time or when you periodically check it?

I had experienced some M1 burning, less than the described 1 quart top up usually between oil changes but there nevertheless... However, after moving to a "full (real) synthetic" (AMSOil) I have not had oil consumption problems since. And this was with repeated ripping sessions...
For whatever reason, Web boards are full of stories of Mobil One burning in ITR motors.
There's so much evidence floating around that many of us have decided to simply never use Mobil One.
I've never really been a fan of any synthetic oil, partially because of Ichisima's famous comments on the matter, which comments he's stood by and clarified in public and emails.
I won't say outright that it's a waste of money, but if you're changing your oil every couple of thousand miles anyway, it does make one wonder.

I had a big burning problem with Mobil1 on my GSR. There is definately a trend here...
I currently run Castrol Syntec 5w30 on my ITR and it works wonders. I change my oil every 3k (all highway)
I'm constantly passing cars and ripping through the gears. I only loose a small amount of oil every 3k.
