well IMHO go for a stock R when ever possible or if you know the previous
owner. check to see what people are asking on auto trader.com and then
offer as little as they will take as some, not all, of the auto trader cars are
usually priced high so they can negotiate. As far as what to look for, what I did first is read all I could about the R so I know how to firstly and most importantly spot a real one. then the common mehcanical checks look for
leaks, test drive it and make sure it hits V-tech and sounds and drives straight down the road. The one thing about a type R is that it is noisey and
rides ruff so its hard to tell if its used up or per design. basically on a smooth road it rides nice, the biggest things that I noticed about the R compared to other performance hondas i.e(00 si and 03 si)is the first time
you steer it left or right it is very solid and seems to take less movement on the wheel to make it do so. Also the brakes are unreal! stops on a dime
and takes less effort to do so. lastly it has a great rumble through the exhaust and when the V-tech hits around 5700 it is stronger than any I have felt before. The tranny shifts like a dream and the clutch takes extra effort to push in(again I am comparing to my previous two si;s)the type R clutch also grabs very high compared to right off the floor board on the si's. so to ramble on but I think this will give you a good idea of what to
expect.

price wise I would say (without seeing either vehicle) 12 to 14 for the 78 milage and 10 to 12 for the 105 milage. there was a guy on here last week
who got a great deal on a 97 for under 10grand so they are out there.be patient and you will find one.

yea i'm just taking my time with it. the thing is I might buy from across the state lol they seem to be cheaper in ATL then here in cali. So I was thinking just send them to the acura dealership to have them do their tests.

I think I know how to spot an R its just the motor... I havent exactly seen a lot of those haha. the suspensen cant be stiffer then teins can they? :P

I'd warn you to look beyond the motor... c5 swaps are a dime a dozen, make sure you numbers match the motor to the vin. Unfortunately alot of theese cars have been stolen/wrecked/abused. Dont get ripped, NEVER by a sports car sight-un-seen. IMHO

You can bring those cars to an Acura dealer and have them inspected for a minor fee. Definately the way to go if you aren't cool with any mechanics who can give you an honest inspection.
