I know and have read the differences between them but do any of you guys have a preference or opinion on either? The TIG sells for about $100 more than the MIG.

Power won't be affected by the welding method, but quality will.

TIG welding, the material being welded melts before the rod, so you get a much, much, much, much stronger weld. Also the appearance is much more professional looking. (for example, a part I had tigged recently has broken twice, but the welds have never broken.)

MIG welding is monkey welding. Anotherwords anyone can do this blindfolded. The rod melts as soon as it is grounded to the part, so the material never has a chance to melt. It's a quick and dirty way to weld.

TIG=expensive, you get what you pay for
MIG=cheap, will get you by, the dyno or dragstrip will not know whether the part is MIGGED or TIGGED, but keep the above points in mind.

Thanks for the reply Jan, that was a lot more informative. Also, what way are most headers welded now?
