Sorry to beat this topic to death but im really interested in getting a Type-R soon. Anyway, I went to the dealer today and asked if they had an AirCon kit for a 97TR. They confirmed that it was out of production. But they did have one for the 98TR. I asked if the parts were interchangable but they said that since the part numbers were different, they couldnt be for sure. Do you think that maybe a few hoses/clamps are different and not the compressor etc so that theoretically it might fit the 97?
I really would rather get the 97 (since ive found a really clean one) but if it came down to it I'd still get the 98. Thanks..

I realize that you seem to think that it's a good idea to add a/c to a car that didn't have it originally, but....

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, JUST BUY A 97' THAT HAD A/C FROM THE FACTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, they did make ITRs in 97' with a/c, and it's one thing if you could get a phenomical deal on one without A/C, but they're not that much better priced, where once you flip up almost 2G's that you're getting a steal. Plus you need to go through the hassle of doing it...

IMO, just buy one with A/C

Later,
Aj

The reason i want to get a 97 is because my friend is selling his 97MY. Its a really clean Type-R with only 1500 *yes fifteen hundred miles on it. Thats why ive insisted on the 97. Otherwise, I wouldnt really care. Anyway, thanks for everyones help. So it does fit huh??

Actually AJ, none of the 97's or 98's had factory air. 97-98's which have a/c, were all Dealer installed. Only the 00+ ITR's had it standard from the factory.

I suggest calling Baranco Acura (ask for Len) and see if he can find you an AC kit for a 97.

I'm not exactly where you got your info from about the 97-98 ITRs not having factory air conditioning as an option, but you're not correct...I have several friends here in FL who have 97-98' ITRs and all bought them new, which all had factory A/C, and though it was an option, it was not installed by the dealer. If you care, I'll be happy to get my friends window sticker to prove my point, as it was, as I recall an expensive option.

Regardless, if you can find a really prestine Teggy for a good deal, then by all means. i was under the impression that you were looking for one specifically to do the conversion...

Any way, I have a A/C condensor if you need it, you pay the shipping and it's yours...the only problem I think you may run into, is that it's a JDM condensor, so the fittings may be on the wrong side. If you want it, I'll compare it with mine and see....

Let me know...

aj is correct...

they did make97/98 tegs with the a/c not dealer installed either it depends on where you got your type r's from... if you live in say florida where it is mostly hot and sunny... dealers put in a request to have them preinstalled , to sell quicker, to make things easier for the dealerships etc....

ifyou bought one in california some dealerships got the same example... it just depended on which dealership had the most pull at what ever factory they were coming from....

1. Honda R&D, Marysville OH - Honda Engineer and 97 ITR owner.

2. From all the ITR's I looked at in 97/98 before I bought mine - 8. All did not have A/C. I inquired with the dealers and it was not a factory option according to them. The dealer could install and Acura did provide the kits, but it was not a factory option.

3. MT, C&D and other car mags published that information as well.

4. Post the window sticker, I'd like to see it. I can forward to Honda R&D in Columbus for clarification.

I'll see if I can get it from him, but I am sure that they were installed before they got to the dealer, whether they were special order or not, I don't know, but the info was printed on the sticker.

If I can get the sticker, I'll post it...

Peace,
Aj

I purchased my 97 in NOVA new. A/C wasn't installed. I had to order it from them to have installed later. From this area, most 97's didn't have A/C installed. All 98's has A/C installed, along with 00-01's.

Thanks,
Victor
