I am not sure if this is normal for a Type R or not. I just got mine a couple weeks ago. Everytime I park my type r in my garage I would go inside and come back 2-3 minutes later, I smell something like burning rubber or maybe oil coming from my hood. I have opened my hood a few times but i couldn't pin point where the smell was coming from. There is no oil leaks, i checked for that. I am not sure if this is normal or if i have some type of problem. Its still under warranty so if its a problem, i would like to get it checked. I hope someone can tell me what to do, Thanx!!

How new are you to driving a clutch? You might be riding it a bit much and burning it and not noticing immediately until you get out of the car. You smell it in your interior when it comes in through your vents but outside, it'll be coming from the vicinity of the engine bay.

I've driven a stick plenty of times b4. I never owned a stick car b4. I am familiar with driving them but the type r i have been having trouble getting used to. I don't drive it much either. If u could explain riding the clutch too much, i would be able to tell u if thats wut i am doing. thanks kabob!

if between gears you're not completely disengauging the clutch before pushing the gas, and if you're not engauging it fast enough when starting from a stop. Either that, or if you bring it high in the RPM frequently, then you'll also tend to burn it. Your stock clutch tends to be finicky.

more than likely, it's either your clutch or you have a small leak somwhere. Though, if there's none on the floor, and you don't visibly see any, then, I'd say it's unlikely. Check your oil level, you may be burning more than you think, and may be running a little low.

To make sure you're not beating up on your clutch, drive it around, but make sure you aren't pushing the gas at all what so ever when you have your foot on the clutch. And when you're starting off at lights, make sure that you let go of the clutch completely once the car is moving. Once you've driven around really carfully, go back to your garage, and see if it still has the same smell. If so, it might be a prob, might not, take it in to acura. If it doesn't have that smell after babying it, then you just need a litlte more getting used to the car. It's not out of the ordinary to have to get used to a car, but just don't take too long or make bad habits, it can be really bad for your car.

Good luck with it,
Aj

All that makes alot of sense. I will check my oil. I think its just me not used to the Type R. I drove it pretty hard last night and was very careful with shifting. There wasn't a burning smell. I pretty much know when i screw up clutching, but last night i didn't. Its probably my shifting but i will find out to be sure. Thanks AJ!

Another question for u AJ or anyone else, I got up to about 120. My car pulls to left, any solution? I assumed tire alignment. Am I right or wrong?

Well, for the most part, you might not have noticed your car pulling to the right at low speeds, as anything over a hundred pretty much exaserbates the situation, ie. higher speeds, things become a lot more noticable.

In all honestly, try and get it alligned and balanced, but it can also often be due to uneven tire tred wear, which can be from burn outs or like occasionally in my case, there's a couple really great left handers on my way home from my afternoon class, so I take them faster than most, and have a little uneven tire wear from it. That wil also make your car drift a little at high speeds, though really not all that much. More than likely though, start with allignment, and if that doesn't work, worry about it then.

look under the car for any plastic bags caught on the exhaust.

hhaahaha, tru, I did that once, funny, cause it was right after I adjusted my valves, and thought for sure that I hadn't sealed the valve cover correctly...any way, after trying to figure out how there was no oil visible around the gasket, and yet I still smelled that burning, we put it on the lift, and sure enough, I still havn't heard the end of that one.....

good call....

Thanks guys!!! I am gonna get my tires aligned and balanced this week. Is it a good idea for me to rotate them? I have the stock tires and the mileage is about 4850. Thanks again!

Yeah, you should do it every time you change your oil, but most people dont'. It depends on how your allignment is. If you keep up on it relatively often, then your tires won't ware as unevenly. If you're like me, do it every 3500 miles or so.
