A friend of mine tells me, Reduced weight. This makes sense, as all the Type-R models have always weighed less than the other models, while not necessarily showing higher horsepower (i.e. the NSX Type-R has less HP than the NSX Type-S, or Type-S Zero).

The NSX-R always had/has the same HP as its other current NSX counterparts because Honda never altered the engine for the Type R. The reason the NSX-S and NSX-S Zero has more HP is because they became available in 97+ which all manual NSX's get the newer 3.2 liter engine. The newest NSX-R didn't become available until last year. Now the Type R has 290hp just like all others.
