I have a question to all type r owners. I have owned a 91 turbo mr2 and loved every bit of it. The only reason I sold it is because of the high mileage. I've heard many great things about the R and is interested in getting one.
Can you guys tell me how is the vtec in the R compare to the turbo.
Thank for your input in advance.

lol, it wont be like a turbo when it hits, thats for sure. you will hear it and feel it when it engages, but its not a huge blast of power

Dude, that's a tough comparison, a rear drive mid engine turbo car versus a front drive all motor car. I would have kept the MR2 but it's too late. Try this on for size, a vtec with a turbo.

Seriously, I'm a Honda fan since I was 16 and old enough to drive, but Toyota makes a nice product too (my wife's 93 Camry has 152000 miles on it and drives like new)

You will definitely miss the way that boost comes on rapidly and the resultant surge of power, but most factory turbo cars fall on their face at high RPM. Not the ITR, this car was born to rev, and just as the turbo was fun at low rpm, the ITR lives to rev above 5500 rpm. You will get addicted to VTEC just as you were addicted to boost.

There is nothing like blasting by someone at 8000 rpm, with their windows rolled down, it's like getting pimp slapped by VTEC.

Hey guys thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate it.
Yeah, I know I'm compareing two different setup...fwd vs rwd, but
I hear so much great things about the itr and how amazing it is to be in
vtec land. Plus, I'm not trying to compare how fast the two cars are I just
want to know how vetc is compared to a stock turbo when it pulls
Can anyone tell me how different is the feel from a stock turbo?
It is agreed that vtec doesn't pull like a turbo, but how strong is the pull?
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

In my opinion, the at the vtec switch over there is a slight feeling of increased power, but it comes on gradually in a more linear fashion. It does'nt put you in your seat like a turbo. Don't forget, the ITR only makes around mid 130ft lbs of peak torque. But then again I can't remember the last time my ass was calibrated.

When you mash that pedal to the ground and V-tec kicks in at 4300RPM (for me modified E.C.U. to Mugen) man that surge of power is a great feeling. Hold on to that steering wheel tight because you could lose control

I misstype often, so don't feel bad
Kangbateh.
Besides the mugen ECU, what else do you have?
sounds like it is a big improvement to have vtec kick in earlier.
How far are you from a stock S2k(0 to 60)?
