:shock: I have a 1998 Type R. I was just wondering if there is a code on the head of the motor, so that I can tell if the head is a real Type R head and not a GSR.

 

it should say b18c5 on the tranny...i think. i have a gsr and it says b18c, so that would be my best guess.

 

The actual block will say B18c5, not the tranny, but if it's just the head, it'll be a PR3-? head code, depending on what type of Type-R it came out of, but the the most common are PR3-4 or PR3-3.

Three things for sure
1) Green paint where the cam sits
2)pr3-4 stamped on the side of the exhaust
3)30 stamped where the other cam sits

This is besides the porting done near the valve seats and the flash removal.

Sounds close enough, I'm not exactly sure what number they were stamping back in 98', but I do know for sure that anything with the Prefix of PR3 is an either B16 or B18C5 head casting, the only other car that uses the same head code is the Si and the Civic type-R, easy way to know it's not a civic, is check the side of the block and make sure it's not stamped ethier B16A, B16A2, or B16B, otherwise, it's more than likely a type-R, unless someone went though a lot of trouble to fool you.

If you're really concerned, take off the valve cover, and look to see if the valve springs are painted yellow and blue alternating between hot and cold sides.
