Okay here is my problem.... There is this guy selling an Integra Type R 1998 Championship White near my place. He's selling it for 12k. Yes I kno you guys probably would go get it in a heartbeat. Well I talked to the guy and I got a carfax. Here is the problem. The car was originally from Portland Oregon. It was stolen about two months after the first owner had it. In Oregon when the insurance company takes possession of a vehicle as a result of a claim they put a salvage title on it. Then when they found the car the engine and transmission and computer had been stolen. So they sold it in a salvage auction. Two not very good things to have in a car's history. Well this guy in washington bought it and he got a rebuilt title and put in the best motor he could get i guess which was a GSR. He's completely made the car all stock like how the Type R should be except the motor isn't the Type R motor. Also the car is a NAM (Not Actual Mileage) car odometer has 5k miles on it the engine has about 50k miles on it. I was comparing some prices and i don't think its a bad deal but... I just wanted to get some other people's opinions. Its not all stock either he's got a bunch of after market parts in the car already. but exterior wise its all stock... he's even got the white rims! :P Oh yea to add ontop of this i'm a young driver (16 years old) so... insurance is probably gonna slaughter my ass ... But iunno i think the reason i kinda want it is cuz it is a nice car my friend has one and i've driven it... and its rare... Well if i got it my plan was to do an engine swap in the future and see if i can get a new odometer so it won't be a NAM anymore and have it a real type R with a type R engine (go import a J Spec one). But the thing is its salvaged... and i don't think people want cars that have been salvaged... Well please post up your opnions. Thanks alot!

Way too many factors involved with buying that POS. Stay away, far away.

You would be better off saving 5k more and spending 17k on a higher mileage R then A Big pile of headache.

I would pass on it. Way too much trouble involved. If you want a CW so bad, you might as well look out of state.

Get him to drop the price 3-5k because of the wrong engine, then it might be something. If you drive a type r with a gsr engine and race it, it makes you and the r's looki bad. I would find a real one, even if you have to travel. O ya, hope you have the cash because banks to give loans for salvaged cars, and you will be paying insurance on a type r when actually a gsr, if the decide to insure it?

I'd RUN, not walk, away from that one, esp for the asking price. It's basically a white GSR with body cladding and a salvaged title. Lord knows what else is wrong with it. Only if it passed a good look-see and I could get it for less than GS wholesale would I even consider it - and then I probably wouldn't anyway. People shy away from salvaged cars without stock drivetrain, for good reason. If I only had $12 k to spend on a car it would be some other Honda product ie older Civic, Integra, and play with it.
