I was interested in putting a coilover suspension on my car, but before I went to order I luckily checked the ground clearance when pulling into my garage. If I lower my car more than an inch, the center of my car will scrape the ground, and even at an inch I may scrape if I don't take just the right path as I pull in. I can no longer justify the expense of coilovers and cornerweighting my car if I'm only going to drop it about 3/4".

So...

I am now thinking about using the Comptech Sport Springs on my otherwise stock suspension. These lower the car an additional 1/2 - 3/4". My car has 67,000 relatively pothole free miles, so one concern I have is if my shocks will blow out significantly sooner. My other concern is if this is likely to improve the cars handling any, or just make it look slightly cooler 8) . I am looking for both.

Hey Tony,
don't the Comptech springs lower the car approx. 1.25"?

They lower the base Integra and GSR 1.25", but the Type R already sits about a half inch lower than those models.

It really won;t help your handling at all, if anything it may be a detriment. When you put springs on stock struts, the struts won't perform as well, due to the fact that you changed the geometry slightly, not to mention the valving on the stock strut was meant for a longer spring.

for 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch, I wouldn't even waste the money. I'm not even sure you'd notice a visual difference with that shallow of a drop.

Last night I happened to be parked nose to nose with a base model Integra, which from the factory sits .6" lower than my Type R. As you suspected, I couldn't really see any difference.

Why does the base model sit lower? Your r has a 10mm lower from the factory! :?

Oops, I meant to say the opposite, that the R sits lower by .6" (15mm).

I agree with aj; I'm sure the handling from the factory set-up is fairly optimal, and the slight lowering of your proposed change, if noticable at all, won't make it look any cooler than it already is. All it will do is SCRAPE more!
