Adam Curpier's Honda Challenge video. Although it's dark in places, it conveys the dynamics of the events very well!

Nice video

Who was the red hatch that spun out at the end of the long straightaway, going into the tight righthander?

Looks very similar to a red hatch performing similar antics in another H-C video. I doubt it's the same hatch as this one's on the opposite coast, but I'll chip the video in for entertainment's sake anyway.

~36 seconds into the video. Actually, that hatch seems rather tail happy throughout the whole video, that's just a highlight.

You said "hatch," which threw me.

I watched the video again, and I think you must be talking about Corey Jacobs and his red Prelude.

Corey's a longtime favourite in Honda Challenge, and he was H2 champ in '02.

In '03, the championship came down to the last race of the last day of the season, and there was a tense rivalry between Corey and his red Prelude and Jason Franza and his yellow ITR.

There were also more than a couple of tense moments in that Sunday race, and many people know them both and there was a lot of banging of fists, gasps and the occasional heart attack in the tower that day.

What Jason didn't know is that Corey lost his front brakes early into the race, and his erratic driving style was an attempt to keep the car at speed and still handle the corners.

What you noticed was Corey going off into the gravel trap w/the Prelude when he couldn't hold the line he needed to hold against the camera car that was obviously able to get through the corner better (with brakes!).

Corey became intimately acquainted with the gravel traps at Summit Point before he finally realised he was risking his life and came in. The championship was SO close that even at that point, if Jason had finished in any position other than first, the championship would've gone a different way.

There was another moment that gave us all a heart attack that is illustrated in the video.

Because Corey developed an unconventional line in an attempt to make up for having no brakes, he threw up dust on the right before turning left to take Turn 3.

To our absolute horror watching on the tower, Jason proceeded to follow Corey right off the pavement and put all four wheels off before heading for the turning point.

I haven't figured out what that was about, and I have always been too big a coward to ask him about it. LOL....

Anyway, the race was a serious, awesome, thrilling and heart rending culmination of a very strange season that put sponsorships, titles and friendships on the line.

Scary, thrilling stuff. :eek3:

For some reason, I thought that was Dudek's red hatch....
