Default rusty teg

I ahve a 95 gsr 4 dr, with only 50k, and i just bought it used a couple of weeks ago. The person who i bought it from, moved here from the east coast, so sicne they salt their roads so much, I have loads of rust under my hood, and in other places. Runs great, looks great, but i dont knwo how long this will last. What problems do you think this will cause and what should i do about it?

Have a body shop sand blast the rusty spots underneath and recoat with an epoxy primer (for corrosion protection) and then undercoating (for sound deadening). As for under hood. Either leave it alone or take the engine out, fenders off, hood off, and bumper off and remove rust. Spray rusty areas with an etching primer and recoat with basecoat/clearcoat if you have the resources. Or have someone else do it if you have money and are that concerned. Just a few ideas. Hope this was some help and feel free to ask any questions about the bodyman side of things. It's what I do.

thats a tough deal... im an east coaster, my car has 210k and no rust

hope you get it all worked out, id pretty much recommend the same kinda stuff that integraclown4u said, the sooner you take care of the problem, the less of a problem it will be.

just spraying over rust with undercoating and self-etching primer won't get rid of the rust, ever if you blast hit. To do it properly, you have to remove the rusted areas, and weld on metal in it's place. Trust me. This will be the best way to do it, but even then, it won't get rid of the rust 100%, b/c if it's started in one place, chances are it's started in other places too.

doesn't look that bad. :dunno: Probably not worth all the trouble and money to get it *almost* rust free. But it's up to you in the end.
