You asked what exterior changes are present:
Both bumpers are different- look much better in my opinion
The front headlights look different- they are not sunk into the bumper as far
The front grill does not have the center horizontal bar on it - (like on new beetles)
All red tail lights - (except for reverse lights)
Mirrors are slightly different
All models come with aluminum rims- 98+gsr have 6 spoke, 99+LS/GS have 16 spoke(like 97GSR), 98LS have snowflake 14" rim, 98GS have 16 spoke(like 97GSR).
Corner lights in front bumper

Not true.
RS came with hubcaps.
i never knew there was that many diffences between the 94-97 and 98+ tegs. :dunno: :doh:
