Default vtec up keep

I was looking into purchasing an Integra GSR. I heard they require more up keep then say an LS. Is this true? And if so, what all is involved?

The ONLY thing that's regularly more expensive about a GS-R is the use of premium gas and platinum spark plugs... and I use copper spark plugs anyways

Aftermarket parts can sometimes be price inflated for the VTEC models, and it's harder to find used GS-R parts, but that's about it...

Question:
Why premium gas? Will something happen if you don't use that kind?
