Default Engine Coolant temp. sensor help

I performed a search and nothing came up. Anyway, My car threw a code for the engine coolant temp sensor. My car started idling very weird. It idles at 3 grand cold. When it warms up it fluctuates between 1 and 3 grand constantly. I'm puzzled. Any help would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly the ECT sensor does affect your idle because it is used as part of a feedback loop for you IAC valve. So if your ECT is a constant high (which would indicate low temp) or a constant low (indicating high temp) or fluctuating then your IAC wouldn't know what to do. There are some tests you can do with a digital multimeter but you would have to look at a chiltons since I can't remember what they are right off hand. Hope this helps.

Well, if the ECU can't tell what temperature the engine is at, then it wont be able to properly adjust the air/fuel ratios, RPM, and the automatic choke...

Time to crack out a manual and see if you're up for the task!

I changed the sensor and nothing happened. I think i have narrowed it down to the fast idle thermo valve or the iacv.
