Default engine problems

When i bought my teg, the guy told me that it had been sitting for about a year. I didn't drive it far. First thing I did was changed the fuel filter. Then i drained the tank (i know, this should've been done in the other order). It didn't even have gas in it, more like water. The tank has fresh gas now, but whenever I try to pull out, the motor sputters, knocks, backfires, etc. Is the new fuel filter already bad, or could it be the fuel pump. Also, on my test run after the fresh gas. I went up a hill, and i had to shift down to second just to make it upfrom where the motor was bogging down so much. thanks guys.

You should change the oil and check the plugs

you should check the fuel pressure and the other tune up items such as cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Probably wouldn't hurt to also do a compression check. Does it throw any codes? Check the timing also but without driving the car I couldn't really give you any other ideas.

thanks guys. I haven't changed the plugs or wires yet. I changed the oil. And drained the radiator and added new coolant. Fuel pressure check is next as soon as i can get ahold of a tester. It got a new valve cover gasket, and now i'm needing a new cam plug.
