Default Engine stays way cold on the freeway.

I noticed that after replacing my old ghetto CAI with PVC, the engine temp never goes past 1/8 when I get on the freeway. Is that normal? Around town it will go to about 1/4, sometimes even just a bit under the halfway mark. I'm guessing that it's normal since I usually get on the freeway early in the morning or late at night, when road temp and air temp isn't that high.

Take this, for example. I've been driving @ 80mph for about half an hour and decided to go a bit faster... Engine temp is way low.

can you still engage vtec at this temp?
your thermostat might be busted and cooling your engine way earlier then needed
i usually run like 35-45% hot when im in my car after it gets warmed up

ohh yeah did you reset your ecut also

It does sound like the thermostat is stuck open.
If your car never warms up to "operating temp", you
may find that Vtec won't engage, so get that checked out.

But I suppose that's better than having a car overheating on you.

Let us know what you find out.

gotta be the thermostat .. mine was doing the same thing - get it fixed and watch your gas mileage climb. . at that temp i think the computer runs it way rich .. although it feels as if the throttle isn't as responsive. . oh well

VTEC works :rick:

If it's broken then it's only broken when I drive fast :dunno:

not normal...the engine, no matter what, should be reaching OT (operating temperature). check your rad fan relays, thermostat, possibly even your coolant sensors.

I don't know chit about that stuff

How come it warms up when I drive around town though? Like stop-go traffic and whatever.

probably because there is more engine load due to constant accel/decel-eration. if that's so, more than likely its the thermostat being stuck open.

or you could try taking off the ghetto pvc piping and either put a good intake on or put the stock one back on and see if that effects anything. if that doesn't work, to to a pep boys and buy a thermostat

Because there is less air flowing over the radiator, and thus allowing the engine to maintain a more normal operating temperature. Since it looks like you have a stuck thermostat, when you reach freeway speeds, there is too much air flowing over the radiator, and since the thermostat is stuck and can't close, the engine gets overcooled.

Until you get the thermostat replaced, I'd take a piece of a cardboard box and place it in front of your radiator, covering about half of it... It will reduce air flow and allow your engine to maintain a more proper temperature
