I heard that if you put different cams on a car that it will sound different when its idleing. What do cams do for performance and what brand is the best to get for an ls?

skunk2 does not make cams for the non-VTEC B-series motors. Most people go with Crower cams when upgrading their LS motors. The 403s will give you a good boost in power without making the car too rough. The 404s will make more power but they will make your car idle like a Harley.

However don't worry about getting cams until you have already taken care of all of the mods you can do outside of the motor. Once you get cams you will need to upgrade your valve springs and retainers, and you will need to get adjustable cam gears and some kind of electronic method of tuning your fuel map to get a reasonable power gain through tuning on a dyno.

word. perhaps you were thinking cam gears. crower makes nice cams for an ls(as booty memtioned above). Don't forget about the rest of the valve train when upgrading cams.
