Default suspension bushings

well, i replaced my front control arm suspension bushings late last week. i feel really bad for people who try to do this with out a press.

i put in energy suspension polyurethane ones. rides stock. i dont notice any increase in harshness or handling capabilities.

the main reason i did it was to get rid of an annoying squeak coming from the right front suspension. turn out the upper control arm bushings on that side were siezed.

if anyone here is looking to replace upper and lower controll arm bushings, i would say that you need a press and air tools, or dont bother. it is a tough job. it took me freakin 4 hours.

my damn camber kit squeaks like no tomorrow no matter how many times i try to take it apart and lube it. its stops for a couple days, but then starts to squeak again shortly thereafter.

do you have your own press? or did u just do it without one?

Thanks for the heads up on that job. I won't undertake it lightly.
What did you mean, that the control arm bushings were siezed?
Mine for my rear suspension have torn rubber. Is that what your problem was?

Yeah, my rear bushings were frozen too. I went to replace the shocks a few years ago and couldn't get the freakin' bolt out! The inner metal chamber had torn away from the rubber and rusted itself solid to the connecting bolt.

You gotta heat it and beat it to get it off. Oh yeah baby.

Gotta press the old out, new in. I just took out the control arms and ran to a local machine shop. 15 min and 5 bucks later good to go.

I gotta do the fronts some time soon. Procrastinating

the pic you posted was of the rear trailing arm bushing. i replaced the front upper and lower control arm bushings. and the bushing has a sleeve that is supposed to rotate around the bolt, but through age, the sleeve and bolt siezed together. but my rear trailing arm bushing looks like that one, so it is next on my list of things to do.

i have to make my car perfect before is start modifying it.

I just did all the bushings (except thr rear trailing arms). I remove the control arms from the car, drill the rubber away from the center sleeve, knock that out, then puta hack saw in the bushing and cut two slots through the outer sleeve but not into the arm. Then knock the rest of the outer sleeve out of the arm. Energy suspension poly parts go in without any problems (lube, lube,lube-squeaky bastards). The stock bushings are a bitch to pound in (using a socket and BFH). Have them pressed in and save a big headache.
The trailing arms are next-if I can get the damn bolts out without breaking them.(Using Energy parts-unless anyone advises against it.)

Note: use a lot of PB Blaster on the bolts before trying to disassemble- I broke one of the front inner control arm bolts -the one where you can't get a wrench on both ends-PITA getting a nut inside the metal( had to slot an access hole to insert a nut temporarily glued to an old wrench so I could start the bolt).

Also, torque the bolts to final amount with suspension loaded with weight of vehicle.
