Default LS/VTEC or B16A3 Setup

I am looking into picking up a 1995 Acura Integra GS-R for $3,000 w/o the motor and tranny. Before I go through with the purchase of the vehicle, i would like some suggestions from you guys. I have about $2,500 to build myself a motor, so its either a FULL B16 Swap ( Like my DB8) or getting myself a LS block for about a grand, maybe a little bit under. I am not sure how much the VTEC head will run me as off right now, I am currently talking to a few shops around here and it could run me $400 and up for the head, also depending on if I get a b16 or a b18 VTEC head.

It seems to me that on this forum, everyone, well almost everyone is against the LS/VTEC setup, but the man that will build my motor has worked with frankenstien motors for about 6 years, and to top it off, all his customers are very happy with their motors (he builds LS/Vtec, CRV/VTEC for a Living).

Here's what I know:

1) I can only afford the LS/VTEC or the B16a if I want a Vtec motor.

2)LS/VTEC may have reliability issues if done wrong, but he says that if anything happen to my motor, that is not my fault (I.E: Missshift at 9000rpms and bend valves) he will take care of it.

3)Ls/Vtec can run with the Type-R easily

4)Longer Strokes

Now for your guy's opinions, wat do you think would work out better within my price range. And I was also told the B16 Transmission will be better than The GS-R transmission with this setup. If I were to get a b16 Tranny, is their any specific one I should get?

I say go with the ls setup. You'd get the b16 and be severly disappointed by the lack of torque.

IMO... I'd drop in a good quality LS engine and save for a turbo...

And a mechanic saying "He will take care of it..." always makes me nervous... Get a repair contract in writing.

Both the GSR and B16 hydraulic transmissions will be relatively well matched to a VTEC motor. Personally I'm not much of a fan of LS/VTEC motors built on the cheap but that's just me. You can get a GSR swap for under 3 grand...I would try and save up for an actual GSR motor and put it in the car rather than some kind of frankenstein setup.

I agree with Mike. Definately save for an actual GSR swap, it will not be much more.

$3k for a '95 body with no engine is a strech, GS-R or not.
