Default Hondata Tune?

I'm collecting parts for my 95 GSR engine rebuild now and plan on doing it within the next three months. CTR pistons, CTR Intake cam, ITR Exhaust cam, AEM pulleys, adjustable cam gears, AEM short ram, HV oil pump, P&P (light job for a driver) and eventually header and exhuast. Is this worth having Hondata tune the car? Should the ECU just be left stock? If it's not going to do much for the cost, I'd rather not. But if they do a good enough job to notice a difference after minor mods such as these, then I'll go ahead and get it done... Opinions?

since you'll be redoing the internals, i say go ahead and get it. you can get it retuned later when you get more mods.

I think that's all I was looking for... A nudge out the door

Anyone know what kind of gains it should yield about?

i've heard 20hp gains but w/ all ur internals and other parts you could probably get more. esp b/c u have a gsr. they can remap literally everything. only thing is the more u get done the more it costs so be prepared to pay a good amount

I'd say with as high of compression as you're gonna be running, definitely go with a Hondata.

The stock ECU has a limited range of compensation for modifications to the motor. Up to a certain point you can run the stock ECU just fine and re-tuning it isn't going to yield much of an increase in power. With the level of work to the motor that you're talking about you will run into some reliability concerns due to the fact that the stock ECU will be outside of its range of adjustment for the mods. Having the Hondata tune will both make you some more power and also keep the car running more smoothly and for longer.

As for your actual plan of attack with the parts, I would suggest going from the outside of the motor in. That means getting a header and exhaust before you start cracking open the motor. Also, skip the pullies. Finally you will want to have the adjustable cam gears tuned in on a dyno.

I don't think I'll be getting exhaust actually. Trying to keep the noise level down. If you don't think the pulleys will help then they will be skipped. Instead I'll probably get a header. I'm still new to the Honda scene so what header would you guys suggest? Won't Hondata tune the pulleys for me when I'm there? Thanks guys. I want to do this right the first time. I've also heard that I may need bigger injectors. Anyone know if this is true? If so, will H23 injectors work?

if you dont get an exhaust your engine will suffer. with more air coming in you'll want it all going out, the stock exhaust will hinder this. a jdm itr 4-1 header and matching 2.5 exhaust is a good choice. the pulleys you're talking about arent tuned. you wont need new injectors. maybe just have your current ones cleaned and blueprinted.

Sorry, I'm tired. I didn't mean pulleys, I meant cam gears. I'll look into the exhaust and header though. You are refering to OEM exhaust and header right?

yes the cam gears should be tuned while you're on the dyno. i mean the jdm itr 4-1 header and an aftermarket 2.5 exhaust.
