Default My engine blew!

I think i threw a rod last night. I was on the highway and it started knocking and then it popped and smoke was everywhere. A friend towed me home and i was looking to see what happened and there is a 1.5 in by 1.5 in hole in my block. Anyways, i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what i should do. I was thinking a gsr swap bc they are pretty cheap and i want a vtec motor. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas for me that might be cheaper and just as good. thanks

you blew an LS motor??? Go GSR swap

yeah more details. What engine setup are were you running and how fast were you going? What gear (i assume 5th)? How many miles on the ol' odometer?

You're wanting "just as good" as an LS motor? Why don't you "do one better" and get a GSR, or hybrid setup, such as a B20/VTEC or LS/VTEC?

i was going about 85 and i was in third gear when i noticed the rpms werent climbing any more so i went to go into fifth and cruise slowly home and when i did the engine died. It started back up and started ticking. it got louder and louder then it finally popped and smoke went everywhere. When it popped i was going about 50 in 5th gear. it has 119,xxx on it and it was an ls motor. i have also thought about getting a cheap ls motor and building it for turbo. I cant decide but i need to because i need it running asap.

85 in third gear! thats beyond redline in my car....but yeah good luck with the new setup, just buy a longblock for now so you dont have to pay for an extra transmission until later on.

Uh, what kind of mistake was that? 85 in third gear in an LS is beyond insane!!!! In my GSR that's about at my redline, what were you thinking? When's the last time you checked your oil level?

Actually, I think 85 mph (136 km/h) is right around redline... I'll have to check, but it doesn't sound too out of this world.
