Default Sputtering problem when idle

All of a sudden, my car when sitting idle is starting to sputter. Trying to describe it, it feels like the engine is jerking in spurts. Once I accelerate, it drives fine, but when it comes to a stop, it sputters again. It does it quite often, but sometimes it will sit smooth at idle.

I just had the 135k mile service and my oil pan gasket replaced for a leak.

Did they screw something up? The work was done at the delearship.

Thanks. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

This is just a thought, but you might want to clean out your throttle body and Intake Manifold with a good cleaner like that SeaFoam stuff, or a similar product. When I cleaned mine out good, not only did it shoot a lot of nasty crap out my exhaust(carbdon depostis, etc.) it smoothed out the idle a lot and made the throttle repsonse better(I have a 95 LS teg with 145,000 on it). If you want any info as to how to do this, PM me and I'll give you some details, but it's pretty much self-explanatory. I also did this for my fiancee's car (91 Accord with 180,000 on it and made an even bigger difference on her car). Just my $.02 though.

I've never done it on my car, but on my buddy's all we did was take off the intake tube, slowly pour the seafoam directly into you throttle body (while the car is running) until it dies. Then wait just a few seconds, start it up, and watch the crap fly out of your exhaust.

Done, that has no relevance to the situation.

Q2Ggirl, what kind of gas are you using? Did the dealership just do the work? Did they fill the tank? You may be using a lower octane than you should! :dunno:

I ONLY use Shell Oil - regular. Not sure, but I think it's 89 octane. I've always used it. Never had this problem before.

Yes, the dealership just worked on it, and no, they didn't fill up the tank.

Back in the day when my car was new, I used Premium once or twice, but I never noticed any difference, so I've been using regular ever since.

Any more suggestions. Maybe I will try the seafoam. Unless it will hurt something if I don't need it.

My cars getting up there. 137K miles on it now, 1997 Integra. I'm trying to make it last to 200k before I chunk it.

I had a very similar problem recently. I replaced my spark plugs, and everything was fine. Maybe check to make sure they replaced the spark plugs, and if they are gapped correctly. Or maybe check if any of them are loose.

when my gs-r did that it would sometime sputter or "bog" at idle like it wants to shut off......i had a msd set up and it was my distributor, the contacts were worn and weren't making contact and only like 3 cylinders were firing sometimes, my car sometimes shut off......replaced the distributor/rotor and no troubles
