Late last year, Honda wheeled out its EV-neo Concept electric scooter at the Tokyo Motor Show. In April, Honda announced that its two-wheeled electric would be introduced in the automaker's home market of Japan before the end of the year. Now, with 2010 drawing to a close, Honda proclaims that it will start leasing the EV-neo to select customers in Japan beginning on December 24th. The automaker plans to have at least 100 of the battery-powered scooters on the roads by next March - and up to 1,000 attacking the streets by the end of 2011.

The 240-pound electric scooter is said to offer performance on par with the company's 50cc gas-powered models. The EV-neo offers up to 18 miles of range from its Toshiba-supplied SCiB lithium-ion battery pack and tops out at less than 30 miles per hour. Honda's electric two-wheeler comes with an optional quick-charge system that provides "fill ups" in as little as 20 minutes. Pricing starts at 433,000 yen ($5,1560 U.S. at the current exchange rate) and tops out at 579,600 yen ($6,906 U.S.) for the decked out, quick-charge capable EV-neo. Unfortunately, Honda has no plans to export this scooter to the U.S.
