just wondering if my clutch is still in good shape....

 

Grinding when going into gears, slipping clutch...

 

clutch test: car is stoped, hand brake up, shifter in second, clutch in, press gas pedal and let out clutch slowly untill clutch is completely out and slowely floor the gas pedal. if engine does not die then clutch is bad. if clutch is completely enganged and engine is still running u need a new clutch.

 

basically drive the car around. Does the clutch slip? (do you see the RPMs going up but the cars not moving faster as it should)
Does the tranny engage and disengage smoothly? Check the fluid levels on the master cylinder as well.

If the car drives fine then your clutch is ok

 

Here is a question. This happened the day I sold my car. I dont feel bad about it b/c I had no knowledge of the problem prior to the sale. It all started when this girl started looking at it (relatively stock LS teg w/ 110k miles). She couldnt get it to go into gear. I still could no problem. She drives it offers cash the next day I say sure. Walk down to drive to give her the car. Start the car and it immediately moves backwards. Clutch in it still moves around. WTF was going on. I drive it around my apartments and soon its back to normal. Give her the car take my cash and sign the as is contract. Walk away to my apartment. Girl cant get car into gear again. Eventually she drives off. I never get a *****y phonecall about how my car was broken. What do you guys think was going on?

 

The easiest way to know if the cltch is toast is to find a fairly steep hill and take the motor to 5k in first and shift into second. I had a really bad clutch that would slip on any slight inclines on the freeway in 5th gear. That was bad.
