This does not have to do with the question the the thread is about but I was wondering what is the best Rpm to shift at? I usally shift at about 3500-4000 Rpm but sometimes I take it as high as 4500-5000 Rpm. What will happen if I keep shifting like that? is it bad to shift at that Rpm?

I have a 99 Civic Ex 5-speed. The reason I am asking it hear is that I did not want to start a new thread when this thread was already talking about Rpm's so I decided to ask.

Your car doesn't even make any real power until like 3500, yes you can shift higher, Honda's make all their power at higher RPMs.

the best way to find out is to experiment yourself. there are too many factors (tires, clutch, surface, tire pressure, power, etc) for us to tell you what to launch at

also, shifting at higher RPM does no short-term damage as long as you stay out of redline, gas mileage will go down, but your car will accelerate quicker

Rev car to redline and drop the clutch, shift at redline No no, indeed, there are many factors that apply to taking off and what rpm to launch at. There was one thread recently of someone dropping it at 7k and breaking the axle in half. Watch out for that. If you have LSD, it will be easier to launch off higher rpms but don't go wild. If you have stock bald tires...you're always gonna spin and hop off the line.
