somebody told me that honda specs call for oil in the tranny(10 weight i think?). so my plan was to put synthetic in the tranny and my motor after flushing it. does anyone think its not a good idea?

Don't put oil in it's only for temporary use. Stay with the Honda MTF.

 

:werd: honda MTF is just motor oil but with special additives that are geared towards transmissions (pun intended)

 

Honda MTF is great.
I had infrequent grunching of 2-3 shifts with 10w30, Acura parts man at Solano Acura suggested Honda MTF.
No problems since.

HONDA MTF!!!,

if your going to put 10w30 in, only use conventional. your transmission doesnt get as hot as the engine does, plus synthetic motoroil dissolves carbon (tranny doesnt get carboned up), and therefore it will harm before it does any good!!

 

the amount of detergents in MTF, and all tranny fluids for taht matter, is insane. much, much, much more than what is in motor oil. and yes, crap does build up inside transmissions.

 

I know its a dumb question, and something i would never do, but why arent all the same detergents in regular motor oil? Is it possible to use MTF in your engine?

because some of that build up keeps the engine sealed after it has alot of miles on it. and tranny fluid is usually too thick to use in the engine.

 

o yeah, i remember when sport compact car drag raced their EG when it had the DX motor, and it busted a 16.7! Their only solution was that the carbon buildup raised the compression. that was funny.
