Default removing broken exhaust manifold stud

Ok, I've heard a few differnt stories on this. I have a 91 D16A6 that has the left-most exhaust manifold stud broken off. It happened whiel I was putting the exhaust manifold on it, so I don't know how close to the head the break is. But...

How do I get it out? I've heard some say you can use a right-angle drill and an easy-out, and others say I have to remove the head and have a machine shop drill and re-tap the hole. That's way too much work, I could just as easily buy another head for it. So, what do yall think? Thanks

When I snapped a stud(you'd think they'd be able to make those things a bit stronger, huh?), there was enough thread left on it for me to tighten two nuts against each other and back the stud out. If you don't have enough room to do that, then you'll need to drill a pilot hole, and then use a bolt extractor to back it out. Or, you might be able to grind a slot in it, and then use a flatehead screwdriver. Or, you could grind a flat spot on either side of it, and then use a crescent wrench, pliers, vise grips, etc to back it out. Take the manifold off and see what you have to work with and go from there.

A garage with a welder can weld a bit of metal onto the tip of a partially exposed stud. That's how they got my broken bolt out.

OR, if you have enough still sticking out, you may be able to get a good pair of vice grips and just muscle it out. I've done that a time or two.
