Default What if the engine blows...

ok say i use a 200 shot on my gsr engine and blow it up. when people use the term "blow it up" what do they actually mean? does it mean to damage the pistons? ...and if these thing(s) do get damaged, how much does it cost to replace?

Hah. With a blow like that, you aren't just talking damaged pistons. You could shatter pistons, bend or break rods, send pieces of rod or piston through the side of your block, oilpan, or transmission.

lol , hes right, with a "blow up" like that you are looking more at a replace of the whole motor rather than repair.... thats why people who have cars like a civic dx with relatively cheap motors run NOS on them stock because if they blow it up the replacement for those motors is so abundant and cheap that its not even worth it to build the motor up and have it blow someday anyways..

I don't think it's stupid at all. If you've never seen a motor actually come apart, it's hard to imagine how much damage can be done.

To answer the question, when you think "blow it up", think about parts that were once on the inside ending up on the outside. When this happens, the flying parts aren't terribly particular about what path they take. More often than not, they go right through the block, rendering it unsuitable for future use. Think big $$$.

You can do severe damage to a motor without actually blowing it up. Shattered pistons and bent rods can leave the motor looking pretty good to the naked eye, but still unusable. Melted pistons and bent valves also happen if you're not careful.

This is why window switches are a good idea on nitrous. If you overrev, your motor will live to see another day.

I'd use a rev limiter no matter what. You don't need nitrous to turn an engine into junk. Force increases as the square of velocity, so RPM alone can pull a motor apart. A couple hundred RPM at redline puts more stress on parts more than a couple thousand RPM down low.
