Is towing a car a good idea?
As in when moving.. My gf is moving from around Chicago to Columbus, OH. She is getting a U-Haul truck to move her stuff (company is paying for it, which is nice) She also wanted to pull her car behind it rather than drive it on a separate trip (or rather than not riding in the U-haul with me... She hates long drives) I am sure the company would pay for the tow hookup as well.
The only thing I was concerned about is whether this would be good for the car. Would it put more wear and tear/ risk on the car than just driving? Also would the U-Haul be a lot harder to manage.
Thanks guise

Get a regular car trailer to put it on behind the U-haul truck.

I used a 16ft Penske truck using their dolly towing my dumped civic. ~600 mile trip. Kind of a hassle passing semis cause you hit a wind draft when approaching the cab. The dolly would also sway like a snake thru windy areas. Had to CRAWL into gas stations cause the rig was so long. But I did get it up to 90mph a few times cause I had to use the bathroom real bad. :lmao:
If I had to do it again, Id at least use a twin axle trailer or just drive the car on a seperate trip. (AAA member

You should never tow a car...they are not designed for such things. Tow the U-Haul with the car.

my dad got one of those and towed me home with his silverado when my car kept turning off on the thruway :hs:
more recently, my friend towed his lincoln ls on one of those, behind a uhaul, from syracuse, into brooklyn, out of brooklyn, then backed up with it attached because the gas station had a fence infront of him, broke it and had to take the car off and ship it to florida, while he drove the rest.

I suppose Theoldman should know if anyone should.....
I've been thinking about this a lot lately too. The thing is the car dolly is so much less to rent and in my case to buy, than a full trailer. There's ways around the sway issues and such but I have to admit I'm also hesitant to drag my car around over all the bumps and humps one encounters on the freeways. Depending on the state... some stretches of interstate are just plain rough!
