b18c1 in a 92 cx. opinions on what next
hey everyone. i have a 92 cx with gsr obd1 in it. i wanted to go forced induction and wanted to get some opinions on whats good or not. i dont need to go crazy fast. i just want more go than what i got now. i pretty much dont want to rebuild the motor yet. does anyone have the jrsc in a gsr'd hatch? what are ur times and how does it run? im looking for something that i dont have to always mess with. but i dont want things to keep popping up like oh i got this now i need that. i dont mind low boost, just something. anyone with a b18c1 eg hatch with forced induction, please drop a line. i dont want all motor. i know it can be fast, but only if u stay light weight. if u have some people with u than ur pretty much not going anywhere. sorry so long but i really cant decide unless i hear from others. thanks.
I have a fully built B18C1 in my '92 sedan and I plan to go with a Drag III kit here pretty soon.
I have Eagle rods, SRP 9.5:1 pistons and all that so I'm not much help to you, but why not build it and then make it faster?
It seems like you just want to satisfy a 'go fast' craving and doing your build backwards (turbo then build). Why not spend that money and do the build and then make it that much better with FI after that?
JMO.

i think that i can settle with low boost until i need the build. i just need some feed back. the motor has less than 50k, its pretty strong. i wanna be sure what i want before i build the motor what im gonna do, lower the comp for a lot of boost or keep it stock comp, etc. i just wanna spend 2-3k and have some go to show for it. appreciate your opinion though.
I agree go for the build up first, even running low boost can damage a motor or you may run it for years trouble free. The only insurance is to know it can take the abuse from the get go.Also for 2000-3000 it is going to be difficult (not impossible) build and turbo a motor and have it retain reliability.
If you want to build a motor for boost, resleeve it, forged rods, forged pistons (I'd go 9.0-9.5:1 CR), micropolish crank, balanced rotating assembly, SS valves, ARP fasteners, dual valvesprings, ti retainers, JG intake manifold, turbo grind cams. That motor build is not going to be cheap however, not cheap at all. And for a GOOD turbo setup, plan on spending in the neighborhood of 4k+.

You can run a turbo/sc on a stock engine, as long as it's properly tuned. I like the greddy kit as well. Most people don't like it because it makes slightly less power than kits with a bigger turbo. However, the smaller turbo will spool faster. The greddy kit also comes with everything you need, down to the last nut and bolt, and the quality is excellent. Greddy is the only CARB certified turbo kit as well.

Not dissing or speaking frome xperiance even..but people seem to dislike the greddy blue box quite a bit... hop on over to the FI forums on http://forums.clubsi.com for better info on this.
The greddy blue box is perfect for low boost applications. While it's not the greatest management system in the world, it gets the job done well. For a better setup, you're gonna spend a lot more money for a Hondata or AEM EMS, or something of the like.
