Always walk around with your finger on the trigger.
Always point the gun at people
Always assume the gun is unloaded
Always place the clip in the gun before getting to your shooting post
Always shoot at animals that walk across the range..birds, squirrels, gophers all get you extra kudos

Always do the opposite of what I have posted and you will be fine

Don't EVER point the firearm at anyone, even if you KNOW it's unloaded. Always point it in the safest direction, generally either down the range or at the ground. Even if you are reloading or setting it down.
ALWAYS treat the firearm as if it's loaded.
Finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Your finger should never be on the trigger unless you are planning on pulling it.

Hopefully you are going with someone experienced who can show you the ropes. If not, ask the Range Safety Officer for some tips/pointers, they are normally happy to help.

safety. It's your first time so you will probably have fun regardless. Just be safe.

i think the safety aspect has been covered

in all honesty proper gun safety and control is nothing more than common sense. something that alot of people lack, hence the accidents you hear about.

that said, i would advise bringing ear protection of some sort as well as eye protection, if you wear glasses thats usually enough. most ranges require both. i rarely wear ear protection unless I'm shooting my .45 but they wont let that fly in most ranges. if you dont have either lots of ranges have small supplies of both for sale at discounted prices. like if it has a gun shop attached.
