Default My dad and I want to build an EG...

My dad and I want a track car that can be street driven, using a 92-95 hatch shell (eg or eh?) We would try to find a pretty cheap shell, strip the interior, heater, put 2 cheap BC seats in, do some research on a jdm motor and go have fun on the track. That brings up the question, I live in Wheeling, WV, two hours from columbus, one hour from pittsburgh -- where is a good track within a few hours drive? Any suggestions, where to find shells, engines, tracks, general advice, its all helpful! Thanks

summit point, wv.
vir in danville va.
another couple tracks in nc.
more tracks north of you too.

buy an s2k and brake pads. it'll be faster and you'll do more racing than trying to polish a turd then attempt to race the polished turd.

Is that near Charlestown, WV? So are you talking about drag racing or time attack. If you're looking for a EG shell look for a CX hatch. The lightest. For the motor depending on your funds I'd go with a JDM B18C ITR or B18 GSR. Now if you have $10K for a swap go with a K20R- ITR(Integra Type R) if not familiar with term.
Post pictures after you get your EG.
Try newspaper etc...

Forgot one thing what's a EH hatch? Or did you mean 96-00 EK hatch.

2 questions must be answered before anyone can give advice on this subject:

1) what is your budget?
2) what type of racing?

We have a drag strip nearby, but my dad wants to do road courses. Looking to spend maybe 4 G's after shell/decent engine/cheap seats

OK, let's assume you can find a beater with a blown motor for around $500.

If you're going to do any road racing, you'll have to tackle suspension and brakes, which is an easy $1500. Any 15 year old beater will likely need most if not all the bushings replaced before being track-worthy. If it's an Si shell, you should be OK with just pads, if it's a cx/dx/vx shell, you'll probably want to swap front and rear brakes, in addition to pads.

So that leaves you with ~$2000 for under the hood. If you're lucky you might be able to find a beat-on B series swap for that much. More than likely, you'll have to do d16z6 + turbo in that price range.

This is also not taking into consideration wheels and tires, which is at least another $500.

In your shoes I would try to ring some more money out of your pops h: You can save some dough for the motor by sticking to drag racing, and skipping brakes and some suspension stuff, but that would be boring and lame. h:

Another thing to keep in mind: it's unlikely you'll find a race series where a cobbled-together car like this will fit into an existing class, and you definitely don't have the budget for wheel-to-wheel racing. I don't know what your dad has in mind for road racing, but it would more likely end up just being track days or time trials.

if you don't have at least 7k to throw at it, it isn't worth it. For a decent, not even amazing ride you would need 4k into the engine bay, 500 into a shell, 2k into suspension. Even an Si would still need minimum koni yellows with custom GC, different sway bar setups and all the bushings. That coupled with pads and other misc. you are tallied up to 7k.
