Do you want to use the smartphone features (i.e. email, web browsing, apps that use a data connection, etc)? Because there's really no point in getting a smartphone if you don't intend to use the smartphone features. Going with that, Blackberry plans can tend to be expensive compared to other devices, depending on carrier.

Depending on you'r e mail service, webclient (the public blackberry e mail service) is only supported by a couple of the free ones. If you pay, you are good. Other than that, ... Google... they are free.
