Another possibility is electrical. Firstly, go to a local AutoZone and have the battery and alternator tested--a diode could have corrupted. The test is free and easily eliminates one angle of this octagon.

This might not be much help, and I'm too lazy to do a search, but I know I've heard of this before on the 6th gen V6's. Yeah, I think it's electrical. Do a search, I bet you'll find something.

This could be just about anything. How did the car die?

- stumble to a dead engine?
- quick cut off?
- bouncing RPM's?

It could be any of this ...
loose wire coming from the alternator
bad gas
jammed / clogged EGR valve (my guess)

If it were the alternator dying, your dashboard would light up like a christmas tree.
