Default 93 Accord LX - Tach bouncy after Ignitor Module replacement

I've got a 1993 Honda Accord LX with the 2.2L 4cyl engine. The ignitor module failed on it a while back, but after it's replacement, the tachometer needle is very jumpy/bouncy. I assume this is just a poor connection of the electronic wire/sensor, but where do I look?

Normally I would take it back to this shop, but I was very unhappy with the way they handled my service (they tore my CV boots pulling on them to see if they were bad). So I would prefer to not have to deal with them again.

The tach needle is not a huge problem, but it's just irratating bouncing around giving poor readings.

any ideas?

correct. The engine idle/speed remains the same. The tach is just bouncing all over the place. Say for example I'm doing 70mph on the highway with the cruise set. The Tach will stay at the approx 3000rpm sometimes, but mostly will bounce between 0 and 3500rpm in really weird patterns.

Very weird, I know that one of the wires on the harness on the dist. cap will do that if it makes contact with something, I believe its the blue one. Check that harness and make sure it looks new, the shop just replaced it so it should be right?

to my knowledge they replaced the ignitor module and the rotor button. I wasn't told they replaced any wires. (but I'll go check the wires. Thanks.)

its the head. my speedo died recently and the tach jumps. both have been jumping for yrs. i replaced the distributor, the coil, and the vss. its the guage cluster. our cars r old and the circuit boards start to short out. u can try and get a cluster used. they r new at www.hondaautoparts.com and very expensive.

hmmm.... this happened the day that the so-called-expert local wannabe-Honda shop replaced the rotor button and the ignitor module on my honda. I thought it would be more related to that, or a loose wire instead of a bad head unit (I guess the head unit is the gauge unit?).

Did the shop use an OEM igniter on the repair?

I don't know, but I doubt it. I don't see any reason they would go and get OEM parts when the NAPA store around the corner delivers to them.
