How to check my Acura 92 integra tranny after wreck?
My axle snapped when i was driving. My car leaned to the right and hit the fender of a parked vehicle. I tried to drive my car to the side of the road without knowing the axle had entirely snapped.
Right now my car is in the garage. The axle is out on one side. I want to know if I did damage to the engine or transmission by trying to move the car when it was practically just on three wheels. I mean would the axle on one side try to spin even if the axle on the passenger side had snapped?\
Basically all i would have to do is get a new axle, tie rod, fender, tire, and a bumper. However if there IS damage to my transmission or engine it would not be worth getting any of these parts.
My engine starts right up. The front end of the car is jacked up. Is there any way I can test the engine or transmission before buying a new axle? Can i stick the half of the axle in and see if it just spins? Anyone know anything about this?
Also does anyone know the cheapest place ONLINE to get 92 acura parts or should I just search local junk yards.
I need a front bumper, passenger front fender, passenger corner light, turn signal light, axle, tie rod, tire. Thats about it. I have all the tools to do it myself.
Basically I need to know if I could have done damage to the tranny/engine when I tried driving it to the street curb while the axle was broke. The car didn't move when I revved it. But the passenger front wheel was like dead weight without being attached to the axle.

okay well the axle didn't snap. The boot just came off. How much grease should i put inside the boot before i reattach it. Matter of fact how do i re-attach the boot?
It was the tie rod that snapped that threw the whole thing out of kink.
Still I am skeptical if I did engine or tranny damage. I want to turn the car on, while the front end is elevated, and apply gas in first gear to see if the wheels/axles spin. But i'd like to get a nod from someone that this is the ideal way to test it.
Otherwise i'm buying an axle and tie rod without truly knowing.

okay i talked to a mechanic. He said even with the front end up on jackstands, with just the axles all the way in, that the axles should spin when i put it in gear and accelerate.
The passenger side, the side where the boot came off but the half of the axle is still in the tranny, well it spins fine. Spins faster as i give it more gas. However, it is the driver side where the axle does not spin at all. This has me worried. I need to confirm whether the driver side of the tranny is in tact or not.
Everything sounds correct. However until I can get this driver side axle to spin I cannot buy the parts and put the car back together.

Well since the passenger side axle spins but the driver side axle does not, it may not be a mechanical problem after all. It might have something to do with locking differential.
However I do not know if 92 integras have locking differential.
I patiently await some advice from any forum members who are mechanically inclined.

not cool. I spent $150 getting suspension parts. Put a new axle in. Still car will not move when i put it into gear and apply gas. spedometer shakes a little funny. tranny doesn't sound right.
so this is it i guess. my car has finally died. I will part it out. its a 92 integra. need any parts?

So your car is back on the ground? if it's still jacked up your tranny is fine, your engine is fine, the driver's side axle isn't spiing because of the differential, the tranny and your car thinks it's making a huge turn, when the passenger side wheel looses traction, it just spins like crazy, the driver's side does nothing and when it loses traction it does nothing and any power it's getting goes to he passenger side tire. IN SHORT: When jacked in the air, your driver side axle will not spin.
Who put the axle in? It doesn't sound like your particular acident would do anything to the tranny or engine. You tie rod whent and it ran into a car right?

Thanks for the much awaited reply.
I put a new radius rod (not tie rod) in. I also put a new axle in the passenger side. So now all I need is a fender and bumper cover. my bumper cover isn't that bad though. just missing a piece on the passenger side corner. Oh and a corner light.
Well I start the engine up it sounds fine. Its back on the ground. But I push gas and it won't move. Not in 1st not in reverse, nothing. shift linkage looks fine. When i shut down the car i hear a whirling sound near the passenger side of the transmission. I am GUESSING my transmission is bad since my car isn't moving. And the speed needle shakes a little bit funny. However there could be a different explanation maybe bad wiring or something. There was a sensor behind the bumper with +/- wiring to it that i may not have reconnected correctly.
Why would a car not move at all when you push gas? transmission right? Or maybe I am just extremely low on transmission fluid now that it leaked out when i put a new axle in. but would this prevent it from moving at all?
I have extra honda transmission fluid but i just wanted the car to move a few feet before i went through refilling it and putting a new fender on and back together.
anyone interested in parts?

I have heard many cases where cars won't moove due to transmission fluid low, may not be your case and the cases i have heard of were auto tranny's but definitly check the level and add accordingly
It's a 5 speed so, listen carefully to the engine and tanny or any noise for that matter when the cluth pedal is depressed and pressed. Try another gear besides 1st and reverse
You say the linkage looks good... so are you even sure that it is changing gears?

any pic.s what sort of sensor was it? I don't think this is your problem but...I'm curious
