Im only 16 so im limited to what i can spend on my car (until i get a job) and i would gain some experience doing the things myself since after highschool im going to study automotive tech. well any help as to what i should do for the car to be in tip top shape would be appreciated

Compare how the car runs when it is cold and after a 15 min. warmup. Lookout for hard shifting or slipping between gears (on an automatic). Listen for the ABS pump running more than a couple of seconds. And get a good look at the brakes.

my ABS pump made it's usual "whirrrrrrr" noise today but for some reason, it was a lot longer than normal. It made the noise for I would say a good 10 seconds. Is this a bad sign?

the abs unit will pressurize longer if you use the brakes frequently or if a wheel happens to come off the ground and spin when the other doesnt.
