Default gsr with high miles

hey i own a 95 gsr 2 dr with aprox. 160k miles on the motor. I am planning on keeping it for a while and putting a turbo on it down the road. I was wondering if it is worth keeping and to just add the neccessary upgrades for a turbo or if i should look into a new motor with less miles on it.

I bought this car a few months ago from an older couple who had it since it was brand new so it was never beaten up on. It still runs strong with no problems. I don't want to spend a lot of money on other performance parts and then have to get a new motor for turbo. If anyone could help me out that would be great, thanks.

You could rebuild it. Or you could just go for it.

Do a compression and leakdown test to see the true stage of the motor.

Rebuilding your original motor is a safer bet IMHO.

The "mileage" of a second-hand motor is always suspect IMO; take the $3000 that they'll charge you for a B18C1 and use half to freshen / strengthen your bottom end.

yeah i dont think that you should waste time turboing a 160k engine...go with a rebuild and you wont have to worry about getting high miles and a possible break down...around 200k, 210k, miles you are going to regret turboing that engine

Default engine rebuild

I'm going to have mine rebuild and my mechanic related the following to
me. I'm sure it's not complete, but it may give you some idea.

rebore cylinders
new pistons and rings
check bearings and crank
possibly regrind of head
new gaskets seals etc.
check conditon of valves, springs, retainers and cams.

I'm sure there's more, but the above I think covers the bulk.

Good luck,
