Default smoke from exhaust

when vtec engages black smoke comes out of my exhaust. nothing extreme, but noticeable. i was just going to switch to a thicker oil to see if it stops. would 10-40w be what im looking for? and will 4 quarts be enough for a d series?

maybe you should get something to control your air fuel like a VAFC that way you can rich or lean out your car.

ive noticed that on a few cars when they floor it and vtec kicks in, its like only a puff of black smoke then it stops. does yours just continues to spit out black smoke in after vtec?

a lot vtec activated smoke is white and is caused from the increase in crankcase pressure

Mine is the same way. It gives out a white puff when VTEC kicks in and then goes away. I am not worried about it though. I think its normal.

keep in mind that although common, this is a sign of minor blowby. Not a big deal however, most B series do it even with 200+ psi in each cylinder
